"Brainy beauties like Rachel Kramer Bussel don't come along every day, especially ones who have their own Village Voice column, a fabulous and constantly updated blog, dozens of short erotic stories in a variety of delightfully dirty books (not to mention an editorship of a book dedicated to erotic spanking), and a cupcake fetish. It's amazing she found the time to strip down and show off that fabulously natural and curvy bod of hers, but let's just say, I'm really glad she did." Fleshbot (by Violet Blue)
"What part of feminist sex-positive cupcake-loving literary pin-up doesn't sound awesome?"
–The L Magazine
"Rachel Kramer Bussel has created her own type of erotica. An
earthy-true-to-life style that draws her readers in and keeps then
focused until the very last word.
She can take a fantasy and make the world seem real or take a real
event and paint the scene softly, to appear more like a fantasy. I am
in awe of her tremendous output, in the positive way she includes all
genres in her collections, and in her constant desire to bring erotica
and sex in general to the mainstream."
– Alison Tyler, erotic author and editor
"Bussel always portrays sex as delicious, wonderful, and fun."
– Bookslut
"Ms. Bussel is the current mistress of intensity in spanking fiction."

In the Flesh is a monthly reading series hosted at the appropriately named
Happy Ending Lounge, and features the city's best erotic writers sharing stories
to get you hot and bothered, hosted and curated by acclaimed erotic writer and
editor Rachel Kramer Bussel. From erotic poetry to down and dirty smut, these
authors get naked on the page and will make you lust after them and their words.
Since its debut in October 2005, In the Flesh has featured such authors as Laura
Antoniou, Mo Beasley, Lily Burana, Jessica Cutler, Stephen Elliott, Valerie Frankel,
Polly Frost, Gael Greene, Andy Horwitz, Debra Hyde, Maxim Jakubowski, Emily Scarlet
Kramer of CAKE, Josh Kilmer-Purcell, Edith Layton, Logan Levkoff, Suzanne Portnoy,
Sofia Quintero, M.J. Rose, Lauren Sanders, Danyel Smith, Grant Stoddard, Cecilia
Tan, Carol Taylor, Dana Vachon, Veronica Vera, Susan Wright, and many others.
The series has gotten press attention from the New York Times's UrbanEye, Escape (Hong
Kong), Flavorpill, Time Out New York, The L Magazine, New York magazine, Philadelphia
City Paper, Gothamist, Nerve.com and Wonkette, and has been praised by Dr.
Ruth. This is not Amanda Stern's Happy Ending Reading Series.

The
New York Times's UrbanEye says:
"Writer and host Rachel Kramer Bussel welcomes eroticism of all
stripes, spots and textures to the Happy Ending lounge on the Lower
East Side."
"Take these sexy tales home and let your imaginations loose during your own
read-along for two while you and your partner share your wildest sexual fantasies.
This is one event that will literally knock your socks off." -- Dr. Ruth
"We're sure Bussel will only be satisfied if you come again and again." -- Flavorpill
"I have read and performed at hundreds of venues, all over the world— and in terms of sheer class, generosity, and author-happiness, the only producer who comes close to Rachel, is the British Film Institute. And they don't have cupcakes." -- Susie Bright
New York Press Best Of 2009 issue said:
Even though Happy Ending Lounge is most closely associated with its namesake series (which has picked up and moved to Joe's Pub), there's something a bit naughtier brewing at the Broome Street den of debauchery. Now in its fourth year, In the Flesh, hosted by Rachel Kramer Bussel, features established and up-and-coming writers sharing their franky, funny, frisky tales of love and lust and manages to do so—for the most part—without veering into creepshow territory. Tension is cut by asking the audience to anonymously submit sexy secrets, and it doesn't hurt that Bussel provides hundreds of cupcakes and not-to-be-missed miniature peanut butter cups to lull everyone into a sugar-induced sense of security. Normally we would avoid an erotic reading series like the plague, but after venturing down here to catch a friend reading her dirty dissertation, we were charmed by the humor of the readers and crowd and not at all displeased by the fact that everything we heard was actually—surprisingly—sexy.
Are you ready to join The Mile High Club?
Rachel Kramer Bussel’s newest collection brings to life the popular fantasy of having sex on an airplane, from commercial jets to private planes. Couples and strangers alike manage to find ways to surreptitiously get each other off as they fly the friendly skies, spicing up their sex lives with a dash of exhibitionism, excitement, and danger. In these steamy stories, readers encounter seductions by strangers, naughty flight attendants and perverted pilots, a screen star who’s hot-to-trot, a female flying instructor who takes two male students under her wing, and a couple who take advantage of the latest in in-flight technology. Featuring works by Geneva King, Alison Tyler, Thomas S. Roche, Elizabeth Coldwell, Jeremy Edwards, and others, these authors go way beyond the crowded airplane bathroom to show just how many ways there are to get it on while onboard.
